DEDICATION OF THE WONDER ROOM - Sunday, October 21, 2007
“The Wonder Room is a very special place. It is a special place to be with God. In this place we have all the time we need. So we don’t need to hurry. We can walk more slowly. And we talk more softly, because someone might be talking with God, and we don’t want to disturb them.”

We begin each Children Worship & Wonder service with those words, reminding the children that the space in which we worship is a sanctuary. The Wonder Room provides a space to worship God, not just speak about God. Just as adults experience the upstairs Sanctuary as sacred space, so do the children and all who worship downstairs experience the Wonder Room as sacred space.

We’d like to thank the many people that helped transform what was an ordinary classroom into a beautiful, tranquil worship space: Pat Cardoza, Donald Shenk, and Curtis Rhodes for painting the room; Donald Shenk for coordinating the installation of the carpet and new blinds; Jeff and Caitlin James for assembling the shelves and cabinets; Charlotte Cunz for sewing the curtains we originally used; and Connie

James-Gililland and Kim Van Horsen for sewing the liturgical fabrics.

The most recent addition to the space was the painting of the Rainbow with God’s Paintbrush that the children and Kris Cunz designed and painted, with the assistance of Warren Scherffius, Cathy Kotowski, and Daryl Burns. It’s an innovative mural that adds to the worshipful atmosphere of the space.

If you’ve ever wondered what goes on in the Wonder Room, then wonder no more! We invite you to attend the Blessing of the Wonder Room on Sunday, October 21, in conjunction with the Blessing of the Animals service. Pastor Art will lead a processional from the Upstairs Sanctuary to the Wonder Room at the conclusion of the worship service that Sunday morning in order for all of us to bless and dedicate that space to its sacred mission.

Coincidentally, the story that day for the Worship & Wonder service is the story of Noah. How appropriate! As always, we invite you to worship with us in the Wonder Room. You are always welcome.
