A KIDNEY FOR CYNTHIA

Be a Part of the Body of Christ by Finding a Part of the Body!

A KIDNEY FOR CYNTHIA

CYNTHIA at center with daughter Jessica at left and Susan J. at right.

As many in our church family are aware, our amazing Cynthia Maldonado has been seeking a kidney for a very long time. In fact, it will be four years in July. Being way down on the list to receive a kidney, she has endured many health challenges over the last years and has to sit through dialysis three times a week for four hours at a time.

If you know Cynthia well, you know that this is a big step she's taking to put this out here and let us know she'd like help in finding a new kidney. But with the help of Susan Jakubowski who wanted to donate her own kidney but was not eligible, Cynthia is going bold with her request and asking this Body of Christ made up of many different parts to help her find a part for her very human body.

The very first step is to know your blood type. Cynthia is A positive, which means her donor needs to have an A or O blood type. If you don't know your blood type, there are a number of ways you can easily find out what it is:

1) If you've had blood work done for a physical, etc., simply call your doctor and ask for your type; or 2) donate blood (go to www.redcrossblood.org to find a location – the closest one to the church is the Pasadena Blood Donation Center located at 133 N Altadena Dr., Suite 103, Pasadena, CA 91107).

Once you've determined your blood type, and decided you'd like to move forward, simply get in touch with Pastor Donald or Susan J. who will help step you through the rest of the process which includes getting in touch with the hospital's donor section, answering a general questionnaire and then going on a number of visits for tissue typing and genetic testing to make sure you are a match. (Financial resources are available for such things as parking and paying for meals on long days of evaluation, etc., and we will work to make resources available to accompany anyone for any and all testing.)

The need for kidneys in the United States is great and the number of people willing to donate a kidney whether before or after their deaths is small. Currently, the estimated time to receive a cadaver kidney is eight years, and Cynthia is only half way there. Please prayerfully consider whether you are being called to consider donating a kidney for Cynthia to help give her a far better quality and quantity of LIFE.

If you have any questions, please do contact Pastor Donald, Cynthia or Susan J. You can also get a ton of information via the National Kidney Foundation at: www.kidney.org/transplantation/livingdonors.

With blessings,
Pastor Donald
